Turners and Growers Apple Store Packhouse

Overview
T&G’s new apple processing facility in Hawkes Bay is a design and build project undertaken by Silvester Clark and First Principles Constructors. The project consists of a 12,000 m² packhouse with a 2,000 m² mezzanine floor, ELA canopy, packing store, and administration building.
The packhouse is constructed using portal frames supported by a central spine truss and prestressed shear walls to provide longitudinal bracing. The mezzanine floor features prestressed flat slabs and an in-situ concrete topping supported by precast concrete beams and columns.
The administration building, designed in conjunction with DLA Architects, houses the hygiene ante rooms, boardroom, offices, gym, and cafeteria. Braced portal frames provide the primary structure, with a combination of structural steel and timber framing used for the internal fit-out.
The project was completed in April 2023 and is one of the largest apple processing facilities in the southern hemisphere.
