Overview
Te Kaha, the One New Zealand Stadium, is a nationally significant infrastructure project located in central Christchurch. The stadium is a world-class, multi-use arena capable of hosting major sporting, entertainment, and cultural events. The 232m-long roof spans across the stadium bowl, creating one of the most ambitious steel roof structures undertaken in the country.
Silvester Clark is engaged by BESIX Watpac to provide independent structural engineering review services for the temporary works associated with the roof erection. This high-risk phase of the project involves lifting and securing over 80 prefabricated steel modules, each weighing more than 75 tonnes, supported by radial truss columns reaching heights of up to 37 metres.
Key Structural Scope
- Temporary Works Review: Assessment of temporary structural elements used during the complex erection of the roof, ensuring they meet safety and compliance requirements.
- Dynamic Load Management: Review and guidance on the design and testing of custom dampers between the bowl and roof structures to manage temporary movement and loads during erection.
- Construction Sequencing Support: Collaboration with the construction team to assess erection methodologies, lift sequencing, and load redistribution at critical stages of the build.
Our involvement supported the safe and timely delivery of a landmark sporting venue that is a focal point for events across New Zealand. The precision and complexity of the temporary works engineering underscores Silvester Clark’s capability to support one of the nation’s largest and most challenging construction projects.
